Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, are sad to report that Vera Ivers, MBE (for services to older people in the community), has died at the age of 89 at her home in Leek, England after a long struggle with ill health. Vera spent her life helping people through her work in mental health within the NHS and in the community. She moved to Spain and in 2002 was tasked by Age Concern UK with looking into this area of the Costa del Sol. This work resulted in her seeing a need for and setting up an ACO (Age Concern Organisation) in the Estepona/Manilva area. Vera was the first President, overseeing the fundraising and the opening of the charity shop in May 2004. She stood down in September 2004 due to ill health and moved back to the UK as her health deteriorated, but she remained active with charity work and her involvement with U3A. Vera was caring, compassionate, forthright and understanding. A lovely lady who devoted her life to others. She will be missed by those who knew her but they will remember her for the influence she wielded on their behalf.
Age Concern Estepona y Manilva started by Vera in 2004 is still working hard in the community with those that are in need of help and advice and has recently moved to a new shop. Her work has led to the expansion of Age Concern into 3 ACOs along the Costa Del Sol.
